Whose…?

Reformed Presbyterians?
Anabaptists?
Methodist?
Evangelicals?
Assembly of God?

Each opening the same book.
Each certain. The Bible alone.
But has anyone ever come to the Bible alone?

Is there a page untouched by tradition,
uncolored by experience,
unshaped by reason?

Biblical marriage?
Show me the wedding where two lovers
choose one another.
Chapter?
Verse?

I thought I carried only a Bible.
I did not notice Westminster in my backpack.
Calvin whispering over my shoulder.

Why?

I called the water
“biblical,”
Forgetting I had never left
the river.

Then I watched Jesus open the scroll,
He left
One sentence
Unread.
He found himself in Israel’s story.
Out of Egypt…
Hosea looked back.
Matthew looked ahead.

I still want to be biblical.
So I keep following the One
Who keeps opening the Scriptures
So I notice
my river
is never meant to be the sea.
